14 December 2000 - Wood Group Production Technology wins 50 million NOK (£3.7 million) Statoil contract
Wood Group Production Technology, a leading supplier of downhole data acquisition products and services, has been awarded a contract worth approximately 50 million NOK (£3.7 million) from Norwegian oil major, Statoil. Wood Group Production Technology will supply permanent downhole monitoring solutions to Statoil's Veslefrikk, Asgard, Sleipner and Kvitebjorn fields in the North Sea.
16 November 2000 - Strategic worldwide partnership between Wood Group ESP and Control Telecom
Wood Group ESP, the Oklahoma-based leading service provider and manufacturer of electric submersible pumps for the petroleum and water industries, has acquired a controlling interest in Control Telecom Inc. (CTI) of Houston. Wood Group ESP is now the worldwide distributor for Control Telecom¿s motor control system. The new company is trading as Wood Group Control Telecom.
25 October 2000 - Wood Group ESP wins Petrobras contract and opens new testing and repair centre
Wood Group ESP has won an important contract to supply Petrobras, the major Brazilian oil operator, with 48 electric submersible pump units over the next twelve months, to be installed offshore in the Campos Basin, the location of Petrobras' ultra-deep water production facilities. The latest equipment will complement the existing 120-unit installed base and will include all downhole components of the electric submersible pumping system.
16 October 2000 - Wood Group forms strategic alliance with VEPICA of Venezuela
Wood Group has signed an agreement to purchase a minority holding in VEPICA, of Caracas, Venezuela, a business involved in engineering, operations & maintenance and construction, serving the oil and gas industry. Wood Group Engineering is acquiring 19.9% of VEPICA and the two companies will jointly bid for engineering, construction and operation and maintenance work in Venezuela's growing oil and gas sector.
12 October 2000 - JP Kenny and Triune set up new joint venture company in India
J P Kenny, one of the world leaders in pipeline and subsea engineering, has teamed up with Indian engineering company Triune Projects, to establish a new joint venture company based in Delhi, to serve clients in the Indian subcontinent and beyond.
19 September 2000 - Wood Group funds lectureship in environmental engineering at Robert Gordon University
Aberdeen-based Wood Group Engineering has partnered with The Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen to fund a new 3-year lecturer's post in environmental engineering. Dr Stephanie Rigby has been appointed as Wood Group Lecturer in Environmental Engineering and a new degree course in environmental engineering will be offered by RGU from September 2001.
08 September 2000 - Wood Group awarded front end engineering design (FEED) contract for BP's UK Clair project
BP has announced that Wood Group Engineering will undertake the front end engineering design (FEED) work for the BP-operated Clair field, which is located 60km west of Shetland.
05 September 2000 - Wood Group completes Mustang deal
Following Hart-Scott-Rodino approval from the US regulatory authorities, and final approval from Wood Group shareholders, Wood Group confirms that it has completed the deal to purchase 80% of Mustang Engineering Inc, of Houston, Texas.
28 August 2000 - Wood Group ESP opens new training center in Midland, Texas
Wood Group ESP, the Permian Basin's largest electric submersible pump manufacture and service company, is opening a new fully-equipped training center in Midland, Texas on August 24. Courses in Health, Safety and the Environment, together with a comprehensive range of technical training on products and installations will be available to employees and customers from around the world. Brian Sevin, Regional Manager, Wood Group ESP will officially open the new center at 9am on Thursday, with officials from the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce and Wood Group ESP employees in attendance.
15 August 2000 - Wood Group appoints dynamic new manager to build Asia Pacific business
Wood Group Heavy Industrial Turbine Division (HIT Division), part of world leading independent gas turbine repair and overhaul company Wood Group Gas Turbines, announces the appointment of Tony Beardsley as general manager of its Thailand facility.
14 August 2000 - Wood Group Aero and MTU Munchen find extra strength in partnership
Wood Group Aero Ltd (Aero Ltd), the UK aircraft engine component repair company, and Germany's MTU München, a DaimlerChrysler company and part of the Turbounion Consortium, have cemented a reciprocal business relationship with the delivery ahead of schedule of the first repair order from Aero Ltd for MTU.
04 August 2000 - Wood Group confirms signing of Mustang deal
John Wood Group PLC has now signed the agreement to acquire Mustang Engineering, Inc. of Houston, making this the biggest ever acquisition by the global energy services group. Wood Group announced on 18 July that final negotiations were underway, and that a signed deal was imminent. Wood Group is initially buying 80% of Mustang for $112m (£75m), with the remaining 20% being acquired over the next six years.
25 July 2000 - Wood Group Pressure Control wins multi-million dollar Petroleum Development Oman contract
Wood Group Pressure Control (Arabian) L.L.C. has been awarded a multi-million dollar 5-year supply contract by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) to supply gate valves and components for its exploration and development projects. The initial 5-year contract has 2 additional one-year options and is a major contract win in Oman for Wood Group Pressure Control.
18 July 2000 - Wood Group in final negotiations to acquire world-leading engineering business
John Wood Group PLC, the international energy services business, is in final negotiations to acquire 80% of Mustang Engineering Inc, of Houston, Texas, for approximately $110m (£75m). The remaining 20% will be acquired over six years. This will be by far Wood Group¿s largest acquisition to date. Mustang¿s sales in the current year are likely to be in excess of $150m (£100m) and it employs around 1,200 people. The agreement will be signed in the next two weeks and will be subject to the approval of Wood Group shareholders and Hart-Scott-Rodino approval from the US regulatory authorities.
14 July 2000 - Wood Group sets up wireline services business for Gulf Of Mexico customers
Wood Group Logging Services, the downhole data acquisition business in Wood Group¿s Petroleum Services division, has made another international acquisition. C&D Conex, the leading slickline services company in Venezuela, has now been renamed Wood Group C&D. Based in Maracaibo, it employs about 30 highly skilled slickline technicians providing a range of downhole maintenance, repair and other intervention services to the oil companies operating principally in western Venezuela.
11 July 2000 - Wood Group increases heavy frame power with buy-out of Thailand joint venture partners
Wood Group Gas Turbines (WGGT), the world's largest independent gas turbine repair and overhaul company, has strengthened its support to the heavy industrial market with the buyout of its partner EGCO, the main independent power utility in Thailand, from the joint venture ESCO Wood Co Ltd.
26 June 2000 - Wood Group opens new $2 million ultra-modern gas turbine overhaul facility in Venezuela
International energy services company, John Wood Group PLC, has made a further $2m investment in the South American oil and gas industry, just weeks after the company opened three new facilities in the Middle East, in an investment of over $10m. The new state-of-the-art industrial gas turbine overhaul and repair facility in Maracaibo, Venezuela, will support both current Wood Group clients and will also support the approximately one million horsepower of gas turbines operating in Lake Maracaibo, playing a critical role in the production of more than 1.7 million barrels of oil a day.

Aberdeen-based Wood Group Production Technology has successfully installed the first CiDRA fibre optic permanent downhole monitoring system in the Gulf of Mexico for BP Amoco.
10 June 2000 - Wood Group ESP leads the field with advanced new systems
Wood Group ESP, the world's third largest electric submersible pump manufacture and service company, is launching a range of new products and downhole systems to help oil and gas operators monitor very accurately downhole conditions, and cut the costs of producing oil. These products are the result of a ten-year research and development programme by Wood Group ESP and some collaborative links with specialist technology companies in both the USA and UK.

03 April 2000 - Wood Group teams up with Just2Clicks to set up global online market for gas turbine components
Wood Group Light Industrial Turbines Ltd of Dyce, Aberdeen, has signed an agreement with e-commerce experts, Just2Clicks, to establish a global independent online market place for gas turbines and components. The new online business is a multi-million pound investment from these two specialist businesses.
29 March 2000 - Wood Group wins appeal against Texas jury $15.8m award
The First Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas has unanimously voted to reverse the award of $15.8m damages against Wood Group made to ICO, Inc. The claim related to an alleged breach of contract dating back to 1994, when the parties signed a Letter of Intent for the possible sale of a Wood Group business to ICO, Inc. for $3.3m.
07 March 2000 - TransCanada Turbines signs 10-year RB211 gas turbine repair agreement with Rolls-Royce
TransCanada Turbines, the Calgary-based joint venture between Wood Group Gas Turbines and TransCanada PipeLines, has signed a new 10-year agreement with Rolls-Royce, whereunder when fully implemented the company will have the right to provide complete repair and overhaul services for Rolls-Royce industrial RB211 engines. This further strengthens TransCanada Turbines' commitment to offer independent gas turbine servicing to world-wide operators of both Rolls-Royce and General Electric gas turbines.
23 February 2000 - Wood Group achieves significant revenue increase for BP Amoco with unique approach to defect elimination
Wood Group Light Industrial Turbines Ltd (LIT Ltd) has significantly increased revenue for BP Amoco and initiated a sea change in reporting strategy in the industry with a programme of defect elimination for the Forties Alpha platform in the North Sea.
08 February 2000 - Sir Ian Wood opens new Rolls Wood Group training centre for apprentice engineers
In a move to enhance the skills base of young engineers in the North-east of Scotland, Sir Ian Wood today (Wednesday 9th February) officially opens a new Training Centre based at gas turbines overhaul company Rolls Wood Group (Repair & Overhauls) Limited (RWG) in Dyce, Aberdeen.
