Wood Group's LNG Smart® technology is turbo-expander based, simple and able to extract LPG. The nitrogen dual expander (NDX-1) process uses nitrogen as the refrigerant in a closed loop system while the open cycle expander (OCX) processes use the inlet gas as a refrigerant.
Each topsides design shares the same fundamental engineering philosophies:
- Safe, simple and environmentally responsible processes
- Proven components at optimum sizes
- Minimal equipment count
- Reduced power requirements
- Simple field operation, start-up and shutdown
- Flexible response to production swings

Our LNG regasification technology can be used in an onshore or offshore environment, as a part of a floating, storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and combined with natural gas liquids recovery (NGLR).
SAV reduces fuel gas consumption and decreases air emissions by using ambient air instead of fuel gas as a heat source. The process can be used standalone or with supplemental heat in colder climates.
SAV offers the following benefits:
- Fuel savings up to 100% compared to SCVs
- Reduction in NOx and CO2 emissions
- Safe for marine life- no seawater used
- Standard, proven components
- Space requirements comparable to SCVs
In 2005, SAV received the Offshore Technology Conference's "Spotlight on New Technology" award. Wood Group is currently providing engineering services for the Trunkline LNG receiving and regasification terminal, the first of its kind to integrate SAV and NGL recovery.
