Wood Group-engineered compliant piled towers are a cost-effective alternative for bottom-founded developments in deepwater.
Wood Group performed detailed engineering services for Chevron's Cabinda Gulf Oil Company's Benguela-Belize compliant piled tower, offshore Angola. The tower, located in 1280 feet of water, was the first compliant piled tower structure outside the Gulf of Mexico. It supports more than 40,000 short tons of topsides and 40 well slots.
The schedule, from detailed design to kick-off to loadout was just 24 months, and first oil was achieved in January 2006.
The Benguela-Belize tower is approximately 1,680 feet (512 meters) in height, and is the fifth tallest structure in the world, land-based or in the water.
