Wood Group offers a total solution that includes structural and facilities design, procurement, and project and construction management services for a wide range of facilities.
Our project teams offer expertise on all types of floating facilities, whether you are considering a spar, tension leg platform (TLP), semi-submersible or a floating, production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). In fact, Wood Group has engineered more spar and TLP topsides than any other firm worldwide.
From initial evaluation and project planning through first production and ongoing maintenance, Wood Group develops innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions that enable our customers to meet their business goals. Our work with installation and subsea contractors, hull designers, and others helps to eliminate surprises and to ensure seamless interfaces during installation and commissioning.
Wood Group has been responsible for an impressive portfolio of projects, including some of the largest and most visible projects in the world. A few of our topsides projects include:
- Atlantis - Gulf of Mexico
- Boomvang - Gulf of Mexico
- Clair - UK Continental Shelf
- Constitution - Gulf of Mexico
- Flumiñense - Campos Basin, Brazil
- Holstein - Gulf of Mexico
- Horn Mountain - Gulf of Mexico
- Independence Hub - Gulf of Mexico
- Mad Dog - Gulf of Mexico
- Marco Polo - Gulf of Mexico
- Nansen - Gulf of Mexico
- Okume Complex - Offshore Equatorial Guinea

Deepwater Programs
Wood Group provided topside engineering design, procurement and project management assistance for BP's deepwater Gulf of Mexico program. Four deepwater facilities¿Holstein, Mad Dog, Thunder Horse and Atlantis¿were designed for record-setting depths, and Thunder Horse is the world's largest drilling and production semi-submersible unit.

Lightweight Topsides
Wood Group provides fast-track, single-lift, lightweight topside designs that can dramatically reduce installation costs and schedules. Lightweight topsides engineering reduces hull displacement and cost, enables a single-module lift for integration, minimizes payload and speeds fabrication.
The Independence Hub platform is one of the most recent facilities to employ Wood Group's lightweight topsides engineering practices, and will set a new record as the world's deepest production platform, in 8050 ft water depth in the Mississippi Canyon area. Additionally, it will be the largest capacity gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico, with a throughput of one Bscf/D and will require 90,000 hp of installed turbine compression.
The 8700-ton topsides are a two-level structure of 220 x 140 ft. nominal dimensions. Lightweight topsides design was used throughout to enable a single-module lift for integration, to minimize payload and to speed fabrication. The platform facilities include the world's largest monoethylene glycole (MEG) reclaimer, which, while 40% larger than the previous record holder, is approximately half the weight.

FPSOs
Wood Group has provided topsides engineering support for 13 floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) projects. We provided structural support module design for the world's first Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), FPSO, the Sanha LPG fractionation project, offshore Angola; conceptual and detail engineering and design for the converted tanker used for the Tantawan field development, offshore Thailand; nearly a decade a ongoing work for the Zafiro FPSO, offshore Equatorial Guinea; and the front-end engineering design for the Belanak floating LPG fractionation facility, located offshore Indonesia.
For the FPSO Flumiñense in the Campos Basin of Brazil, Wood Group provided detailed engineering and design, project management and start-up support. Also included in the scope of work were procurement support, vendor coordination and data control. Module fabrication for this converted FPSO accelerated product delivery at reduced capital expenditure. Wood Group also provided operational support both on and offshore for this FPSO.
